Paid Activities & Attractions
‘Ata Whenua’/’Shadowland’ at Fiordland Cinema: Visit places in Fiordland few people reach and see rare sites from the comfort of a cinema seat. This famous 32 minute film is ‘Mysterious, evocative, exhilarating and utterly spectacular, filmed across extremes of season, climate and terrain … ‘ — Only $10 and an essential part of even the shortest Fiordland visit.
Livesky – Night Star Gazing at Astronomy Fiordland: Taking 1.5 hours, this evening of sky gazing takes advantages of our clear skies and includes pick up and a free hot drink. Fun, educational and intimate, being for small groups, this activity offers you a whole new perspective on the universe as seen in the stars. — $45 for Adults & $35 for children under 15.
Te Anau Glow Worm Caves with Real Journeys: An iconic Te Anau activity, a visit to the glow worm caves takes you and your small group into a fantastically beautiful underground world. The trip is 2hrs & 15 mins and includes a cruise across lake Te Anau and a small boat trip into the grotto where the glow worms do their spectacular business. — $75 per person and operating day and night.
Hire a Quadricycles or Bike from Te Anau Mini Golf: Littlies love the quadricycles but older kids might prefer a little peddling independence. Either way, an easy bike ride round town is great family fun and a good way to take in the local sites. Combine a ride with a game of mini golf and you have them occupied for an afternoon or morning.
Free Things to Do
Te Anau Birdpark/Lakeshore Walk: An easy walk and a great way to take in some of the local scenery — great lake views.
Day Walking on the Kepler Track: No time to take in one of Fiordland and New Zealand’s great walks? Take a day walk on the Kepler to Dock Bay or Brod Bay to experience some of the magic of this very special track. (Guided options are available but a guide is not required.)
Ivon Wilson Park/Lake Henry fishing for kids: Great picnic spot and activity for kids with fishing rods available to hire.
